Local groups join forces to support hospital

Tony Lau Insurance Agencies Ltd. and Gore Mutual Foundation have each donated $10,000 to the Richmond Hospital Foundation’s medical imaging centre.
Doing business together for three decades, Tony Lau Insurance Agencies Ltd. and Gore Mutual’s joint effort demonstrates their commitment to state-of-the-art health care for Richmond. The Gore Mutual Foundation is the charitable arm of Gore Mutual Insurance Company.
“Richmond Hospital plays a very important role in maintaining the health of our growing community,” says local business owner Lau, who founded his eponymous insurance agency 40 years ago. “Many of my customers and staff live in Richmond, and they count on the hospital. I invite everyone to give something back to support health care in our community.”
The brand new medical imaging centre is a feature of the Yurkovich Family Pavilion, the new nine-floor acute care tower currently scheduled to be under construction from fall 2024 to summer 2028. The cost for the $860.8 million project is shared by the provincial government and the Richmond Hospital Foundation.
“Giving is in our DNA, and through the broker grant matching program, we’re happy to support broker partners by matching their donations to support their charities,” says Kate Hogan, director of Western Canada with Gore Mutual. Gore Mutual has been serving brokers and customers in British Columbia since 1935 as one of Canada’s first property and casualty insurance companies. “We’re committed to building thriving communities and hope this donation will further support the great work being done at Richmond Hospital.”
“The new medical imaging centre means more space, better design and the addition of new technologies to improve care and fulfill the increasing demand for imaging,” says Kathryn Slemko, the Richmond Hospital Foundation’s senior director of philanthropy. “Thank you to Tony Lau Insurance Agencies and Gore Mutual Foundation for helping us make a difference for generations to come.”
With a $10 million fundraising goal, Richmond Hospital Foundation invites people to help fund excellence and innovative technologies in the new medical imaging centre. Donations are vital in ensuring that innovation is a building block of the future Yurkovich Family Pavillon.
